Lackluster erasure in a fiddle box canoe

On sunburnt afternoons

While the leaves caressed the wind
A voice unduly echoed
All the shit we couldn’t say without a win

Winter was an octave, a layer within itself
The lake had frozen over
And the fish were fighting tooth and nail
To swim out to the ocean

But the silence was getting heavy
And chessboard couldn't hold it back

There was something keeping you in place

The petty drunken fights
The tallied fuckings-over
In a houseboat lit at 4am
With fireflies caught at daybreak
But in the intervening hours

It’s hard to tell these things apart
